Terry Whitnell

Terry Whitnell, an 84 year old Trenton resident, passed away January 18, 2025 at the V.A. Medical Center in Kansas City, MO.

A visitation is scheduled from 6 until 7p.m., Monday, February 3, 2025 at Resthaven Mortuary of Trenton. Open visitation will begin at 9:00 that morning. He is to be cremated following the visitation with inurnment at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.

Terry Grant Whitnell was born in Trenton to James and Mary Louise (Renfro) Whitnell. He graduated from Trenton High School and William Jewell College where he played quarterback for their football programs. He enlisting in the United States Air Force serving in Vietnam and he reached the rank of Brigadier General. Terry flew many different aircraft including gunships in Vietnam and larger C130s. He especially enjoyed dumping fire retardants from C130s in dome of the California fires. Terry was stationed and traveled all over the world finishing his career at Fort Dobbins, GA. At Fort Dobbins he got to meet with many dignitaries and politicians, and has many pictures with them. On June 24, 1963 he was married to Laura Lanette Gee and they had a daughter Laura Katherine. He was later married to Thersa Annette Walsh Hobart on February 14, 1983. Terry was an avid golfer and member of Riverside Country Club.

Surviving relatives include his wife Thersa Annette Whitnell of Florida, daughter Laura Katherine Whitnell of Cameron Park, CA, granddaughter Ashley Smith and husband Ken of Cameron Park, CA, and great grandchildren Micah, Kensley, and Brayla, step sons Joe Walsh of Miles, MI, and Josh Walsh of NC, half-siblings Jean Anspaugh of Fairfax, VA, Sally Refro of New York, NY, Mark Whitnell of Florida and Chris Whitnell of AZ, and a special brother-in-law William Goodson. He was preceded in death by his parents and a half-sister Victoria L. Goodson
