Harold A. Morris Jr.
20 April 1955 - 29 October 2022
On Saturday, October 29, 2022 Harold Anthony Morris, Jr. faced his final mission and went home to be with his Lord and Savior. Harold proudly served God, his family and his nation with all his love and strength. He was a quiet and humble man, but also strong and wise.
Harold joined the United States Air Force in 1974 and served with distinction, retiring in 2011. He was deployed overseas several times and earned many awards and decorations, including the Distinguished Flying Cross. He led by example in all things, believing that to teach others he should be willing to work alongside them. That strong work ethic gained him the highest respect from his seniors and subordinates.
Harold was very proud to serve in the armed forces, but he considered himself foremost a servant of God. His deep and abiding faith in Jesus Christ was his greatest strength, and he shared that faith by being a kind and generous husband, father, grandfather and friend. Even as he fought cancer he provided for his family and strived to point others to the love of Christ. More than once he defied the odds of survival and bounced back, always giving credit to the Lord for his renewed strength. God blessed Harold with more time to be with his loved ones than the doctors thought possible, but in the end, He decided Harold deserved to come home. We don’t weep for Harold, for he has joined The Father and is now at peace. We weep only because of Harold’s absence. We await the day we can all be together again.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Harold A. Morris Sr and Shirley R. Morris. He leaves behind his enduring love for his wife, Barbara Harris Morris, to whom he showed total devotion. Also surviving are his sister, Brenda C. Adams and husband Howard of Roanoke; daughters Joelene Malone of Florida, Leslie Kessler and husband Sean of Virginia, Sara Hayes and husband Robert of Virginia; sons Anthony Morris and wife Megan of Alaska, Joseph Mauck and wife Bethany of Virginia; nephew William Davis and wife Laura of Texas; niece Michelle Davis of Virginia as well as numerous grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
The family will receive visitors at Lotz Funeral Home in Downtown Roanoke, Virginia on Friday, November 4, 2022 from 2pm-4pm and from 6pm-8pm.
A Celebration of Harold’s Life and Homecoming will be held at Lotz Funeral Home on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 11am followed by a Graveside Service with full military honors at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens with Pastor Dennis Robinson of Crestview, Florida officiating.
