Fred A. Doyle

Major (USAF retired) Fred Allen Doyle went to live with the Lord on 14 February 2022. Fred was born to Lester and Kathryn Doyle on September 5, 1936, in Hanover, PA. He was baptized at the Church of the Nazarene in Hanover. After graduating from Penn State University with a B.A. in Marketing in 1959, he married Betty Lee Weldon and was commissioned in the USAF. They were stationed at numerous bases across the country and abroad before finally being stationed at Hurlburt Field in 1971.

As a USAF master navigator and combat veteran in various C-130s, he was awarded 5 distinguished flying crosses and 13 air medals. After retiring from the Air Force, he started teaching math & science at Lewis Jr High School before transferring to Bruner Middle School. Fred & Betty joined Shalimar United Methodist Church and attended the Builders Sunday school class. He was a loving Christian who enjoyed being the hands and feet for Christ helping with Meals on Wheels, building with Habitat for Humanity, a member of the Emmaus community, and always willing to help out his neighbor. Fred led a birding class at the Center for Life-Long Learning and enjoyed ushering at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center.

He is preceded in death by both his parents and his brother, Lester. Fred is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Betty; his sister, Lois McNally Walker, New Jersey; his sister, Chloe Glynn, Pennsylvania; his daughter, Sandy Moon (Lloyd) of Fort Walton Beach; daughter, Sharon Freeman (Jeff) of Shalimar; 5 grandchildren, Katherine Jensen (Ethan), Clarissa Freeman, David Moon (Audrey Vaughn), Sydney Freeman, Daniel Moon; 1 great-grandchild (Soren), and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of life service for family and friends will be February 21, 2022 @ 11:00 am at Shalimar United Methodist Church, 1 Old Ferry Road, Shalimar, FL. The family would like to thank the nurses and caregivers at Emerald Coast Hospice and Not Your Ordinary Caregivers for their love and compassion shown to Fred.
