Philip R. Canterbury

MSgt Philip R. Canterbury, Sr, age 87, passed away May 02, 2025. He was born on February 4, 1938 in Clendenin, West Virginia to Ralph and Marie Canterbury.

Phil as he was known to most grew up in Clendenin, West Virginia before joining the United States Air Force in 1956 at the age of 18. He was Honorably discharged December 7, 1964 and moved to Pensacola, Florida in 1967 with his wife Marion. Phil owned and operated C&W Spray Service for many years. He then joined the United States Air Force Reserves in 1985. Phil retired from the reserves and sold his company in 1998 and moved to DeFuniak Springs, Florida. Phil enjoyed hunting, fishing, grilling, working outside and traveling. He also loved spending time with his family. Phil was a kind, loving and a funny man who could light up any room with just his presence.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years and mother of his 3 children, Marion T. Canterbury, both parents Ralph and Marie Canterbury, brother, Marvin Canterbury, sister, Connie Canterbury (Samples) and daughter, Teresa Canterbury (Bartley).

He is survived by his wife who brought the Lord, love and happiness back into his life Melinda Canterbury; son, Philip R. Canterbury, Jr (Michelle); daughter, Elizabeth M. Childree (Will); brother, Rick Canterbury and sister-in-law, Maxine Marotzke; brothers-in-law, Jerry, Vic and Ken Guerrero. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Phil was loved by so many including his extended family whom he loved as his own Tommy and Rose Nixon and especially their three children who were his grandkids Gaige, Sydney and Cameron Nixon and great granddaughter, Kinsley Nixon.

A time of visitation will be held from 9:00 - 10:00 AM, Friday, May 9, 2025 at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home Chapel; 230 Park Avenue, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32435.

Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, May 9, 2025 at Barrancas National Cemetery.
