Doris Burgin
Doris Burgin, age 83, of Somerset, KY., departed this life on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Hospice of Lake Cumberland Jean Waddle Care Center.
Doris was born on April 28, 1934 in Adrian, W.V., to the late Charles and Virginia Crites Cobb.
Doris was a secretary at the regional offices for Vocational Education in Somerset as well as Jeffersontown for 10 years. She later worked in civil service in Florida for 11 years.
Doris was very creative with sewing and crafts and had a special love for flowers.
Doris loved to travel and accompanied her husband, Lonnie, a career member of the Air Force, on numerous assignments around the world. Their daughter, Teresa, was born in Somerset, son James in El Paso, TX and son David in Misawa AFB in northern Japan.
After living in numerous places they returned to Somerset, the place Doris loved best and built a home in Burnside overlooking Lake Cumberland. Doris loved her church, Simpson Memorial United Methodist. She enjoyed attending church and participating in church activities. Doris loved music and especially enjoyed the church members singing the beautiful hymns every Sunday.
She was loved and respected by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Lonnie Burgin, of whom she married on May 22, 1953 in Liberty, IN; two sons, James A. (and Lisa) Burgin of Amarillo, TX and David L. (and Denise) Burgin of San Antonio, TX; one daughter, Teresa Ann (and David) Sewell of Somerset, KY; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; two sisters, Jacqueline Young of Fairfield, OH., and Sandra Lockhart of Buckhannon, WV; numerous nieces and nephews, and many family members on her husband's side.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant, brother, Gerald Cobb, and three sisters, Anna Marie Cobb, Maxine Putzulu, and Kathleen Crawford.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 16, 2017 from 11:00am until 12:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.
Her funeral service will follow on Monday, October 16, 2017 at 12:00pm at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Rev. Donald Hiten officiating. Burial will be at Mill Springs National Cemetery.
